Iam a 30year old nurse.I have been suffering from Type 2 Diabetes mellitus for last 2years. I am on glimepiride 2mg and Metformin1gm.I have recently become pregnant. Pregnancy in Diabetes is always a high risk pregnancy. In Diabetic patient pregnancy should always be a planned event. Poor glycemic control at the time of pregnancy can lead to serious malformation of the baby . Not only does the baby run ,the risk of complications like IUGR,IUFD etc. Mother too is at the increased risk of Preeclampsia perinatal infections. Plan for pregnancy only when your HBA1C < 7%. Make sure that you are on folic acid right from the time you plan conception. Aim for FBS 70-130mg/dl and post meal < 180 mg/dl before you plan pregnancy. You should preferably be on insulin right from the time you plan pregnancy as safety of oral drug is still to be established . you must also undergo screening for retinopathy and nephropathy before you plan pregnancy . Certain drugs like ACEI/ ARB and statins are not safe drug during pregnancy and should be avoided. |
