Objectives :
The diploma course in cardiac Nursing has been planned in order to prepare registered nurse to function effectively in various intensive and coronary care units. The need for a special course was felt as cardiac medicine and surgery have advanced rapidly along with the new invasive and non –invasive therapeutic and diagnostic equipment. The use of these specialized equipment is possible only if the nurses in these units have the skill to handle these equipments and in depth knowledge to interpret the data given by the continuous invasive monitors and improving the professional standards by providing quality care to patients.
Practical experience :
• Actual care of cardiac patients in ICCU & wards.
• Writing of nursing care plans for assigned patients & presentation of the same.
• Case presentation.
• Recording of observation & maintenance of records , charts & report.
• Health teaching – planning , noting and presentation in relation to patient condition.
• Practice of holding / conduction bedside clinical rounds.
• Seminar and group project in clinical area using problem solving technique .
• Practice of clinical evaluation technique by means of anecdotal records, rating scale, questionnaire (checklist) and observation . Assessment of performance.
• Practice of supervision technique., writing of report, counseling and guidance
• Practice of cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
