CYTOPATHOLOGY:

Cytopathology, though a branch of anatomic pathology has developed as a distinct sub speciality in recent times. It includes study of cell sheet off from tissue/lesions (exfoliated cytology) e.g.; cervical cytology & Sputum cytology etc. and Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology(FNAC) of superficial and deep seated lesions. This also known as interventional cytology. In exfoliative cytology, we perform cervical cytology, sputum, bronchial washing/brushing, urinary sediment, endoscopic lavage and study of body fluids and effusions. Buccal smear for sex-chromatin is also done. FNAC is increasingly being used to sample wide variety body tissues, which has enormously increased the scope of diagnostic cytology. Cytological samples are also subjected to special stains, microbiological studies and immunocytochemical studies. Newer techniques such as Imprint cytology, Crush smear cytology and biopsy of sediment cytology is also done.
HISTOPATHOLOGY:

The study includes structural changes observed by naked eye examination referred to as Gross or macroscopic changes, and the changes detected by light microscopy supported by routine H&E stain. Special histochemical and immunohistochemical techniques are performed to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. The lab processes histopathology samples for Pulmonary pathology, Cardiac pathology, Renal pathology, Neuropathology, Dermatopathology, Gynaecologic pathology, Gastrointestinal pathology, Oral pathology etc.
